These food industry mavericks realised that there was a need for an emporium that offered the freshest baked goods and a 5-star personalised deli experience to all customers.

They were also the first to extend the range of the foods they offered. They spearheaded preservative-free ingredients and family-owned recipes.

As a fresh concept, the menu items were ‘new for the time’, and included croissants, breads, muffins, cakes and slices, sandwiches, quiches, biscuits, imported meat and cheese delicatessen items and hot and cold take-home meals, all under one roof.

The one-stop concept for freshly baked goods and high-end deli goods was a hit in areas like Sandton, Johannesburg and Pretoria. Today, The Bread Basket can be found in the shopping areas of Johannesburg.
